Internationally-renowned cellist Carlos Prieto will present his book The Adventures of a Cello, and perform four movements (Prélude, Sarabande, Bourrée and Gigue) from Suite in C major for unaccompanied cello (1720) by Johann Sebastian Bach; and two movements (Deciso and Presto Scherzando) from Suite for Solo Cello (2007) by Samuel Zyman (Mexico, work dedicated to Carlos Prieto).
Born in Mexico and educated at MIT, Carlos Prieto is one of the most respected cellists in the world, regularly premiering works composed especially for him by Latin American, North American and European composers. He has won praise for his performances throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, China, India, and Latin America. The New York Times said of his Carnegie Hall performance, «Prieto has no technical limitations and his musical instincts are impeccable.»
Strings magazine devoted a cover article to Carlos Prieto calling him a «Renaissance man» and examining «his astoundingly rich life as a performer, author, globe-trotter and tireless promoter of Latin composers.»
