Third Thirsty Thursday (TTT)-Latin American Studies Happy Hour
Invitation to LAS students and Professors and anyone who wants to join us for the first of a series of casual Happy Hours to take place on the third Thursday of every month of the semester. The venue will change each month, so keep your eyes on the bulletin to get location updates. These informal Thursday events are forums for students and faculty to relax, discuss various interests, and get to know one another.
This Third Thursday will be at 4:30, September 17th at Mosaic Wine Bar in North Park. We look forward to seeing you there!

David Lind’s last book, First Stop in the New World, is a street-level panorama of contemporary Mexico City that covers a lot of ground- from the richest man in the world to a 13 year old girl who lives on the streets and sniffs glue.

Students from all departments are invited to LASSO – No English-Spoken Lunches.
TUESDAYS from 12noon to 1:30 – bring your lunch and come practice Spanish, Portuguese, Mixtec, Zapotec, Nahuatl or any other languages of Latin America. We provide non-alcoholic drinks!

“A Vision for U.S.-Mexico Border Security”
Mr. Alan Bersin, Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will share his vision of the US-Mexico border security relationship, explore the coordination of United States border security policy with the Southwest border communities, and address the importance of close collaboration between the United States and Mexico in this regard. Assistant Secretary Bersin will particularly focus on policies aimed at controlling the flows of undocumented immigrants, arms, and cash across the border.
