Regina Marchi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism & Media Studies at Rutgers University. She holds a Ph. D. in Communication from the University of California, San Diego, and an M.A. in English Literature from San Francisco State University.
This special event is being held in conjunction with the annual installation of the Day of the Dead altar that will take place in the Chicano Collection immediately after the book presentation. Visitors are encouraged to leave personal objects at altar in memory of loved ones. Traditional refreshments, including Mexican hot chocolate and pan dulce will be served. The altar will be disassembled on Wednesday, November 4th. Co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American Studies.

18th Latin American Studies Symposium at Birmingham-Southern College
Call for papers
BSC Latin American Studies Program invites proposals for the 18th Annual LAS Symposium hosted by the Birmingham-Southern College on April 16-17, 2010. This interdisciplinary conference aims to promote undergraduate research focused on Latin America.
All topics pertaining to Latin America are welcome. The presentations should be 15 minutes in length. We encourage proposals of panels and invite faculty members to serve as panel chairs and discussants. Papers in English, Spanish and Portuguese will be considered.
Registration: All participants have to register for the conference. The registration fee is $35.00.
Submissions: Please send panel/paper proposals to the address below or submit online.

Call for papers- Winter 2010 issue
From the Border, a peer reviewed, electronic student journal, welcomes essays and debate pieces on Latin American Studies. Our main goal is to ground an academic voice specifically related to Latin America in the university community of the San Diego-Tijuana border region. For our first issue, we welcome submissions employing diverse methodological and disciplinary approaches to topics from Pre-Columbian, colonial, independence, and contemporary Latin America.
Deadline: November 30th, 2009.
