ZOLBERG INSTITUTE ON MIGRATION AND MOBILITY │The New School

Call for Visiting Scholars, 2017/2018

The Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility is pleased to invite applications for the position of Visiting Scholar, 2017-2018.

As a leading New York center for migration research and policy, the Zolberg Institute seeks applications from experts globally with scholarship that intersects the fields of migration studies and mobility. Visiting Scholars should be committed to mission of the Institute and to the thematic and topical interests that the Institute aims to foster.

Visiting Scholars are expected to be active in the vibrant intellectual community of the Zolberg Institute, and present their ongoing research at least once during the academic year. As an engaged participant in the life of the Institute, the Visiting Scholar will participate in faculty seminars, lecture series, events, student-led working groups, and research clusters.

This is an appointment as an affiliate of the Institute, and includes library/institutional access and help with visas. Visiting Scholars receive a New School email account and ID card, as well as J-1 visa sponsorship, if needed. The ID card gives Visiting Scholars access to all New School buildings, as well as access and borrowing privileges at the New School libraries and NYU’s Bobst Library, for the duration of their Visiting Scholar appointment. The appointment does not offer a stipend, full-time office space, or housing. The duration of the Visiting Scholar position is one academic year, beginning in Fall 2017.

By April 28, 2017, please complete the form here and submit the following to migration@newschool.edu:

  • An academic CV
  • A two-page statement of interest that covers previous and ongoing research initiatives, your fit and commitment to the Zolberg Institute mission, goals and academic & intellectual life.
  • An acceptance letter/confirmation of external grant or a statement indicating plans to apply for funding.
  • Names and email addresses of two referees that can speak to your work upon request.

If you have any questions regarding your application please do not hesitate to contact us at migration@newschool.edu.
