These sessions will address deadlines, tips on formatting, the review process, and publishing requirements. Sessions will last approximately 30-45 minutes.

However, the effects of economic liberalization on economic growth are not necessarily a direct effect but occur indirectly through the impact economic liberalization has had on the performance of other explanatory variables of FDI and exports.

Sin embargo el efecto que han tenido las variables asociadas a la liberalización económica sobre el crecimiento económico no es necesariamente un efecto directo sino que ocurre de manera indirecta a través del impacto que ha tenido en el desempeño de otras variables explicativas de la IED y las exportaciones.

CALL FOR PAPERS International Graduate Student Research Conference on Latin America and the Caribbean: Creative and Critical Perspectives
11 & 12 March 2011 at York University, Toronto, Canada
In recognition of the diversity within the region, creative and critical paper, panel and alternative presentation proposals are welcome on any aspect of study of Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole and/or its constituent parts. This conference represents an outstanding opportunity to recognize and explore emergent innovative research by graduate students in all disciplines including (but not limited to) the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, environmental studies, law and business. We also seek contributors whose work can open fruitful dialogues and exchange across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
Languages: We are accepting submissions in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts and panel proposals is November 30; those planning to present in alternative formats (e.g. film, dance, visual arts, music, etc.) are encouraged to contact us earlier. Inquiries and completed application forms may be sent to lacsconf@yorku.ca.
Applicants will receive confirmation of acceptance by mid-January. Presenters will be asked to submit their papers by March 1.

Summer Intensive Courses in Yucatec Maya Beginning-Intermediate-Advanced
June 13 – July 22, 2011
Students will have the unique opportunity to take a comprehensive look at the Yucatán through a combination of classroom and field activities. Students visit a range of important historic and cultural locations. Trips to archeological and colonial sites as well as other Mayan villages are led by Mayan

Total combined enrollment for all three levels is limited to 20 students. Students are encouraged to apply early. Applications are invited from anyone who wishes to study Yucatec Maya. Application deadline for program admission is March 15.

Mixtec Cultural Exchange Program: In San Diego
Orientation Monday, January 31 st, 7:00 pm
Arts and Letters 379Tasks:
- Teach English or Spanish to Indigenous Mixteco Adults
- Provide tutoring and educational activities to Mixteco youths
This is a great opportunity to learn about the Mixteco culture, practice your Spanish, and gain practical experience in language instruction. No prior tutoring experience needed; this is a hands on learning experience for you and the Mixteco community.
Requirements: Must be available to teach on Tuesdays or Thursday evenings in Linda Vista from 5:30-8:30 and help with cultural workshops on two Saturdays over the course of the semester. Spanish preferred, but not required.

Indigenous farm workers in California
Here is the link to an excellent web page with comprehensive data on indigenous farm workers in California. It includes data on various regions of California and on the communities in Mexico from whence the workers come. A significant proportion of these workers are from Oaxaca.
The website is one result of a 2 ½ year study of indigenous farm workers in California. The site is in English and Spanish.
