Call for Papers and Pre-organized Panels: Second Conference on Ethnicity, Race, and Indigenous Peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean

Individual papers and organized panel proposals are invited for the Second Conference on Ethnicity, Race, and Indigenous Peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean, November 3-5, 2011, at the University of California, San Diego.
Panels and individual papers on topics relating to all aspects of ethnicity, race relations, Indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and other ethnic or racial groups in Latin America and the Caribbean will be considered. Scholars, graduate students and practitioners in all humanities and social science disciplines with an interest in these areas of research are encouraged to participate. Presentations can be in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Submissions of pre-organized panels are strongly encouraged and will be given preference in the selection process. For advice or consultation regarding potential panel submissions, please contact the conference organizers.
Individual papers are also welcome and will be assigned by the Program Committee to an appropriate panel with a chair and a discussant.
The First ERIP conference, which took place in May 2008 at the University of California, San Diego, brought together more than 300 participants and attendees. Because of the high level of interest and the existence of space, time and budget constraints, we urge prospective participants to submit their Panel Proposal Forms and Individual Paper Proposal Forms as early as possible in order to improve their chances of securing a place in the program. ERIP-LACES TRAVEL GRANTS

EXPECTATIVAS SALARIALES EN MÉXICO 2010
IV ENCUESTA NACIONAL
La encuesta sobre Expectativas salariales en México realizada por la Fundación Este País y Consulta Mitofsky, muestra que 31.1% de los mexicanos dice estar satisfecho con su ingreso económico actual. Este porcentaje es inferior al de hace 4 años, cuando se ubicó en casi 35%
El sueldo promedio con el que los mexicanos que reciben un ingreso económico se sentirían satisfechos es de $11,350.00, superior en 14% al sueldo promedio identificado en 2008 como satisfactorio, que fue de $9,924.00.
Quienes viven en zonas rurales hoy estarían satisfechos con percibir menos de lo que les era satisfactorio hace 2 años: $8,984.90 en 2008 y $5,254.60 en 2010. Esta situación puede sugerir que la crisis económica de 2008–2009 afectó sensiblemente a la población rural y la de más bajos ingresos, obligándolos a ajustar sus expectativas de ingreso a la baja.
Entre las 11 distintas ocupaciones que se miden en la encuesta, los mexicanos consideran que la de Presidente de la República es la que más debe ganar, con un salario mensual de casi $55,000.00
Si se comparan los sueldos de 2006 y 2010, medidos en salarios mínimos, que los ciudadanos asignan a las 11 ocupaciones consideradas en el estudio, las únicas ocupaciones en las que se registra un incremento en el sueldo que se percibe deberían que ganar son las de chofer, policía, maestro y Presidente Municipal / Jefe Delegacional.
6.9% de los mexicanos se asignaron un sueldo menor al de alguien sin educación primaria terminada y 16% dice que merece ganar un sueldo mayor al que le asigna a un mexicano con estudios de doctorado.
