Discussant: Sebastian Saiegh, Associate Professor of Political Science, UC San Diego

Caroline Beer is a current Visiting Fellow at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies. She completed her Ph.D. in political science at the University of New Mexico and has taught in the Political Science Department at the University of Vermont. Her area of expertise lies in comparative politics with special interest in democratization, sub national politics, and women in politics; particularly in Mexican Latin America. Her current project, titled Gender equality in the Mexican States, treats these subjects. Some of Beer’s published works include «Electoral Competition and Institutional Change in Mexico» on the University of Notre Dame Press, «Democracy and Human Rights: Elections or Social Capital?» published on International Studies Quarterly, and Judicial Performance and the Rule of Law in the Mexican States» from Latin American Politics and Society.
