The Latin American and Caribbean Water Center invites applications for a vacant Research Professor position

Applied Environmental Toxicology

The Centro del Agua para América Latina y el Caribe CAALCA (Latin American and Caribbean Water Center), an initiative of Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Tech), FEMSA Foundation and the Interamerican Development Bank (IBD) is the first non-governmental hemispheric water center for Latin America and the Caribbean. It offers a challenging opportunity for research, lecturing and postgraduate supervision in the strategic area of Water Sciences / Water Resources at Assistant/Associate Professor level.

Monterrey is third largest city in Mexico and the capital city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León near Texas. The city is a modern industrial and business center. The metropolitan area of Monterrey has a population of 3.8 million.

Monterrey Tech (http://www.itesm.edu/) is one of the largest (over 100,000 students, 33 campuses) and leading private technological universities in Mexico and Latin America. It has one of the top graduate business schools in the region and is leader in patent applications among Mexican universities.

The CAALCA (www.caalca.net) is carrying out applied research, capacity building, knowledge dissemination and consulting for international organizations, government, industry, and NGO’s. The mission of the center is to become the leading reference in water in sustainable water use and management in Latin America and the Caribbean.

CAALCA is seeking to appoint a scientist to conduct research in the area of applied environmental toxicology. This is a permanent position and will be located in Monterrey, Mexico. You will work closely with the CAALCA team in delivering research and consultancy to various stakeholders on Applied Environmental Toxicology. Key duties for this role include research, lecturing and consultancy on:

· Risk assessment for water pollutants (chemical, physical and biological)

· Impact of water pollutants on public health

· Strategies and policy to address water pollution effects on public health in Latin America

To be successful for this role you are expected to be:

· A PhD in the Environmental Sciences, Toxicology, or related areas with relevant experience on applied environmental toxicology, and at least three years of relevant work/research experience since the conferral of your doctorate;

· Experience in statistical tools i.e. SAS;

· A proven track record of work/teaching experience and research in the research area (i.e. articles in indexed journals);

· A motivated, active researcher who is willing to play a leading role in his research topic;

· Experience in attracting research grants to sustain ongoing research;

· Excellent in interpersonal communication and written and spoken Spanish and English; however language of work is Spanish;

· Interdisciplinary team player;

· Working experience in Latin America
